In this work, Monika Dahlberg explores East African hospitality through a hundred missionary collection boxes. The boxes, once used to raise funds for the mission, are loaded with ambiguity in her work: who really benefited from the collection, the children or the missionaries' institution?
The work responds to the historical collection and fundraising practices of the Missiemuseum. Dahlberg interweaves her personal history as a child adopted by the mission with this collection, exposing how religion, care and power were inextricably linked. Karibu! Karibu! invites us to reflect on the tension between giving and receiving, welcoming and demanding a welcome.
