In this work, Roos Holleman views the birds of paradise of Papua New Guinea from their own perspective, which remains largely invisible to humans. She shows their biofluorescent colours in feathers and legs, which are beyond the reach of the human eye. The work responds to the historical birds of paradise in the collection, which the SVD collected for large-scale trade. While missionaries caught the birds for the European fashion industry, Holleman emphasises that nature cannot be fully known or possessed and invites us to question our assumptions about the knowability of nature.
